The Weinberg Medical Center Clinic specializes in performing jaw correction surgeries (Orthognathic surgery) such as asymmetry corrections, aesthetic and functional corrections. The surgeries are performed under general anesthesia by specialists in the field who provide initial diagnosis, execution of an innovative and personalized computerized treatment plan (in 3D), explanations of the entire process, performing the surgery and follow-up. All this in full cooperation with an orthodontist specialist.
The purpose of orthognathic surgery
The main goal of Orthognathic surgery is to correct deformity of the jaw. It should be noted that these deformities affect not only the aesthetic appearance of the face, but also the health of the teeth and the functioning of the chewing system, so surgery for the jaw deformity is also of health importance.
The common deformities are:
- In the upper jaw: the jaw is located in a position too far back or front and is created, for example, overexposure/underexposure of the upper teeth.
- Lower jaw: Like the upper one, it is located in a front or posterior position and therefore a functional and aesthetic disorder is generated.
- Disorders in both jaws – even in cases where the relationship between the two jaws is abnormal, deformity is created, because the bite is unbalanced. For example, if the lower jaw protrudes relative to the upper one or when there is a deviation to one of the sides, there is no contact between the teeth and more.
- Chin – sunken, protruding or asymmetrical chin
It should be noted that orthognathic surgery is intended to correct complex deformities in the jaws that cannot be corrected by teeth straightening alone. In cases of minor deformities, or in cases where only the position of the teeth is altered, orthodontic treatment can be used only.
The surgery is performed by specialists in the field, using modern and cautious and invasive methods, during which the doctor places the jaws in the right place and maintains their correct position relative to the patient's face, so that a harmonious appearance is obtained according to the desired result.
